Goals are Really Dreams
with a Staircase
The story of Cheryl & Steve’s Journey to Uniontown
|
| |
| Once upon a time there was a young girl who loved
to read. She knew that reading was a way to visit the world
and the books she read sparked imagination. This young girl,
at the age of 12, visited often with her Aunt Beulah. Her Aunt
was a wise women and a successful businesswoman in the 20’s
and 30’s. She gave her five precious bits of wisdom to
grow and live by.
She said, “Have big dreams, write them down, look at them
often, your steps in life will lead you to them and most importantly
when you recognize them for what they are have the courage to
act on them.” |
| |
| Now in the late 60’s and early 70’s
Harlequin Romance Books were popular reading for young girls.
The girl read all the time about far-away lands. Castles, and
Hostels and Inns were always featured in these stories and she
thought this was an excellent idea and dreamed of being a traveler
as well as an Innkeeper. She wrote these dreams down on paper
and remembering what her Aunt had said, she wrote the specifics
including the names each room would have, the type of things
she would serve for breakfast, and what colors the rooms would
be. She put this away in a safe place and then went on with
her life. |
| |
She became a world traveler by joining the Air
Force at the age of 18. She spent years overseas in places like
Turkey, Greece, England, Germany, and visited many others. She
saw all of the United States except for Montana, North and South
Dakota and Wisconsin. When she left the Air Force she began
working for TRW and the Ballistic Missile Program at Norton
AFB in California. Along this journey she met her husband Steve
and they lived happily in Santa Maria, CA for many years.
Now for the rest of the story… |
| |
| There were three young businesswomen who worked
together at TRW at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino,
CA. Each one had different jobs and skills. As aerospace downsizing
happened, and life in general, each one of the businesswomen
left and started new lives far away from each other. One –
Carrie – went to Kennewick, WA and began working for Westinghouse
at the Hanford site. The other – Kathy – went to
work at the University of Redlands and dreamed of doing something
different. The third, the girl from the first story –
Cheryl – left TRW and went to work at Vandenberg AFB in
the Commercial Space Launch business.
One June day, Cheryl took a train ride from Santa Maria to Pasco,
WA to see Carrie’s daughter graduate from High School.
Carrie took Cheryl to see Kathy who was now running a B&B
not far away in Uniontown, WA. |
| |
| As soon as the Inn came into sight, Cheryl knew
she was home. When they walked through the door, Cheryl knew
she was home. When Kathy gave a tour of the Inn, Cheryl knew
this was her Inn and Kathy had been keeping it for her until
life brought her to this exact time in life. |
| |
| You see – the names of all but 2 of the
rooms are the same names Cheryl had on her dream sheet all those
years ago. It has taken almost three years to get here. We have
had a few hiccups along the way…but Steve (who now shares
my dream), and our four fur children, Pepper the Dog, VW, Bugs
and Toby, the Cats, (who will love us no matter where we are)
are home. |
| |
The dream has begun. Having guests feel welcome
and visiting the world through the stories they tell during
breakfast brings a smile to our faces and is what Cheryl dreamed
of all those years ago.
Thank you for sharing our dream. Please come see us. We will
meet you at the door with a smile, and show you your comfortable
room. |
